One Girls Crazy Outlook on life in Southern Maine

In December 2010 I moved to Southern Maine from a small town next to Bangor (Bangor is right in the center Maine and is one of the largest cities in Maine for those of you wondering if it's in Canada). Here are some crazy stories of outings, hikes, beer and just the general mayhem that is my life. Welcome. Enjoy. Love it.

The Best and Worst of April

Just a little highlight of the best and worst of the month of April.

THE WORST ENTREE

FAMOUS DAVE'S
BBQ PULLED CHICKEN SANDWICH
Besides the fact that the bun was bland. The chicken was very low quality. For starters, my first bite had what one may call a "knuckle" in it. One whole side of the sandwich was a fatty mesh of chicken and disgusting. I added the Devil's spit sauce because the sandwich was also very bland.

THE BEST ENTREE

THE RUN OF THE MILL PUBLIC HOUSE AND BREWERY
INDIAN ISLAND CHICKEN SANDWICH
The Indian island chicken sandwich. It was perfect!.
The chicken was cooked just right. It was tender with good flavor. It was topped with lettuce, tomato, cheese, and bacon. I added mayo and ketchup. It topped the sandwich off just perfectly.

BEST APPETIZER

DUCKFAT
FRENCH FRIES

BUCK'S NAKED BBQ
FRIED PICKLES
This was a tie. I couldn't chose between the two. The fries and Duckfat were outstanding and crunchy and yummy. But, the fried pickles at Buck's were mouth wateringly amazing.

WORST APPETIZER

NOSH
FRIED PICKLES
The fact that i chose fried pickles as one of the worst appetizers we had, must tell you right there that we have some pretty great appetizers. However, the fried pickles at Nosh just weren't as good as the traditional fried pickles that we usually get. They were the whole pickle. This is a cool idea but not really practical when biting into the actual pickle. They just weren't my favorite. But try them, they might be yours.

BEST BEER

RUN OF THE MILL PUBLIC HOUSE AND BREWERY
BUG LAGER
Golden in color, Bug is a refreshing, Bohemian Pilsner.  Our gateway beer to what lies beyond.  5.0%
IT IS LITERALLY AMAZING.

WORST BEER

BUCK'S NAKED BBQ
LONG TRAIL ALE
It was interesting. The ale was very bitter with a very sweet almost to sweet after taste. I didn't like it and neither did he, unfortunately.

BEST DESSERT

RI RA IRISH PUB
LAVA CAKE
I am in love with this cake. I wish I could learn how to make it. I m sure if I did some research than I could do it... but I rather just have Ri Ra's make it for me. It was just a gooey as the first one and the black raspberry filling topped it off PERFECTLY.

WORST DESSERT

THERE IS NO SUCH THING!

BEST SERVICE

BUCK'S NAKED BBQ
The service at Buck's was very good. Our waitress was always close by, so if we needed her, say after we burned out toungues out, she was right there to bring us water. She was very knowledgable about menu and very on top speedy about refills and checking on us every now at then.

WORST SERVICE

CRACKER BARREL
Are you really surprise? The waitress, who didn't even let me sit down to say hi to my friends, was all up in my face to get me to order. I had no idea what I wanted and ordered something that I really didn't want under pressure. She was very rude and didn't even bring us our meals... then after we recieved them, she never once came over to check on us. Cracker Barrel was just overall a terrible experience. I really have nothing good to say about this place.
